COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course focuses on solving real-world transportation and logistics problems using network analysis in GIS. Participants will learn how to build road network datasets, prepare data, and perform analyses such as shortest path, closest facility, service areas, and multi-stop routing.
The course covers network dataset concepts, connectivity and impedance rules, data preparation, route optimization, service area generation, origin–destination cost matrices, vehicle routing problem (VRP), and location–allocation modeling. By the end of the course, learners will be able to model road networks and support decisions in urban planning, emergency response, and logistics.
You will learn to:
-
Build and prepare road network datasets
-
Find shortest routes and generate driving directions
-
Identify nearest facilities and reachable service areas
-
Solve VRP and location–allocation problems
-
Create OD matrices for travel time and distance analysis
Level: Intermediate to Advanced – prior GIS analysis experience recommended
