Remote Sensing Essentials
This course introduces the principles and applications of remote sensing and how Earth’s surface can be studied using satellite and aerial imagery. You will learn how electromagnetic radiation interacts with the atmosphere and ground features, how sensors capture this information, and how spectral signatures are used to identify different land-cover types.
The course covers remote sensing concepts, imaging processes, satellite characteristics and resolutions, types of sensors, multispectral and thermal imaging, and common Earth observation satellites. By the end, you will clearly understand how remote sensing data is acquired, interpreted, and used in environmental and geospatial studies.
You will learn to:
-
Understand remote sensing concepts and history
-
Explain electromagnetic spectrum and reflectance principles
-
Differentiate passive and active sensors
-
Identify satellite types, resolutions, and common missions
-
Recognize multispectral and thermal imaging applications
Level: Beginner – suitable for students and professionals with no prior experience
